Have you had a chance to read our last blog yet? If your answer is yes, then you already know that refrigerators tend to use a lot of energy. The only thing that uses more energy in a typical home is the air conditioner. However, you don’t have to live with an inefficient refrigerator forever! Previously, our electrician in Cincinnati, OH went over a few tips to help make your refrigerator more efficient. Keep reading to learn about more things you can do:

#4. Wait until food cools before placing it in the refrigerator.

When you place hot food inside your refrigerator, your refrigerator has to work a whole lot harder than usual to cool it. Let leftovers and other food sit outside on the counter until it has cooled to room temperature and then place it in your refrigerator.

#5. Decide what you want before you open your refrigerator.

Don’t open your refrigerator door and idly look inside for something to eat. The longer you leave the refrigerator door open, the more energy you waste. A good way to save energy is by making a list of your snacks and meal options, then picking one before you open the refrigerator. It is also helpful to open your refrigerator as little as possible, so try to make fewer trips.

#6. Inspect your refrigerator’s seals.

From time to time, you should thoroughly inspect the seals on your refrigerator to make sure they are working as they should. If they are working, no cold air should escape from your refrigerator.
