Did you know that your wall outlets will eventually need to be replaced?

Electricity is a big part of our everyday lives, and that’s probably why many people don’t treat it with the respect and caution it requires. Changing your wall outlets at the first sign of trouble will help to keep your family and your home safe. There are many circumstances when you need to change your wall outlets, and in our last blog, our electrician in Cincinnati went over a few of them. Keep reading to learn more signs that you need to change your outlets:

#4. Overheated Outlets

To check if your outlets are overheating, feel them. If the screw that holds the plate to the wall is hot or if the plate itself is warm, then your outlet is probably overheating. This means that you are most likely running more power through the outlet than it can handle. If this is the case, you may need to replace the outlet with one that can handle more power.

#5. Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are masters at hiding, and, contrary to popular belief, they don’t just stick to the bed. Bed bugs like to hide in loose wallpaper, baseboards, picture frames, curtains, cracks in the wall, doorframes and, you guessed it, even wall outlet plates. If you suspect that you may have bed bugs, don’t forget to check your outlet plates!

Changing outlets is a job that many homeowners feel comfortable doing on their own, and if you do, always make sure that you turn off the electricity to the outlet you are changing before doing anything else.
