Don’t let rodents damage your electrical system.
Rodents can wreak havoc on your wires by chewing on the insulation and making nests around the wires clusters. If you have had a chance to read our latest blog, then you already know how to tell if you have rodent damage. Unfortunately, if you have rodent damage, you will most likely need to have your house rewired. However, you will be glad to know that there are many things you can do to protect your electrical wires from rodents. The following is a list of tips from our electrician in Cincinnati, OH for protecting your wires from rodents:
#1. Seal any cracks or holes.
Once rodents get into your home, it makes it a whole lot more difficult to stop them from causing trouble, so you should take steps to prevent them from entering your home. Rodents can fit in surprisingly small cracks and holes, so it is very important to seal any that you find in your walls or foundation.
#2. Set rodent traps in your attic.
If you have noticed signs of rodents inside your home already, you should attempt to get rid of them by setting traps. Keep in mind that traps aren’t foolproof, and they may not be able to get rid of all of the rodents that you have.
#3. Spray rodent repellent around your electrical boxes and wires.
If you have rodents in your home, you should at least keep them away from your electrical boxes and wires, and luckily, rodent deterrent can really help. You can find rodent repellents at most hardware stores, but keep in mind that they aren’t safe around small children or pets.
