It’s so important to know how to protect yourself against common electrical hazards.
In this day and age, electricity is a constant part of our daily lives. Whether you are at work, at home or out and about, you come into contact with electricity over and over again. Although electricity is a staple in our daily lives, it can also be incredibly dangerous. That is why it’s so important for you to know what the common electrical hazards are and how to protect yourself against them. The following is a list from our electrician in Cincinnati of the most common electrical hazards to watch out for.
Although many of us are aware of how dangerous a mix of water and electricity can be, we still find ourselves grabbing the electric razor or hair dryer with wet hands. While this may seem innocent enough, it can be incredibly dangerous. Never touch any of your electrical appliances or outlets if your hands are still wet! It’s also important to be mindful about electrical outlets near water or located in areas of your home that are prone to flooding.
#2. Extension Cords
Extension cords can be incredibly helpful, but they are really only designed to be a temporary solution, so it’s always a good idea to unplug them between uses. Never run your extension cords through walls or ceilings, as they can overheat and lead to an electrical fire. According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International, improper extension cord use is responsible for over 3,300 fires every year. If you have a constant need for extension cords, you may want to consider having a new outlet installed.
